Equine Assisted Therapies (Physical Therapy)
Through our Equine Assisted Therapies (EAT) program, services are delivered by state licensed therapists affiliated with the American Hippotherapy Association, at the Clinical Specialist level, using hippotherapy as a strategy.
This therapy focuses on functional rehabilitative skills such as postural realignment, motor control, sensory integration, gait improvements, communication, cognitive skills and psychosocial activities.
Private sessions are approximately 45 minutes long, include mounted and unmounted activities, and are delivered by Texas licensed and AHA affiliated therapists.
JoyRide provides a truly unique and natural setting to achieve maximum therapeutic outcomes.
Exercises on the horse provide improvements in static and dynamic balance, gait, motor planning, educational readiness, and interpersonal skills.
Hippotherapy as a treatment strategy has added value when compared with more traditional therapy approaches by combining and being influenced by the volunteers, staff along with the movement and personality characteristics of the horse. This results in physical improvements, educational readiness and enhanced interpersonal skills.
